Food Policy Bites: Issue 2
Kingston’s Food Policy Bites Issue 2: November 2024 Welcome to the second edition of Kingston’s Food Policy Bites! The City of Kingston’s Department of Health and Wellness is tasked [...]
The purpose of the Eat Well Focus Team is to develop, implement and/or support policy, systems and environmental change by supporting and promoting local efforts to improve access to healthy foods throughout the community. We coordinate with gardening/urban agriculture efforts and organizations addressing food insecurity and healthy eating in Kingston.
Our partners include farmers, chefs, teachers, artists, nutrition educators, dietitians, parents, non-profit and for-profit organizations, communicators, systems changers, volunteer organizations, private businesses, health practitioners, nurses, doctors and most importantly: YOU.
Our Vision
We envision an environment where community members have access, can prepare, enjoy and share healthy food, preferably grown locally using sustainable methods.
Our Mission
We bring together people working on the food system in Kingston. We facilitate and strengthen communication by engaging residents and organizations in activities to access and utilize healthier food.
What we are doing!
We are bringing everyone who works on the food system in Kingston to the table. Our hope is to create a collective vision for everyone to eat well in Kingston and to amplify communications between groups already working on food issues so that we can grow our synergy and work collaboratively more often.
Current Projects
Kingston Eats is a monthly citywide veggie and fruit of the month campaign that encourages a culture of healthy eating, food fun, and increased veggie & fruit consumption through fun and food celebration!
Kingston Cooks is a series of free healthy cooking workshops at the Community Kitchen in the Andy Murphy Neighborhood Center that centers practical skills, food exploration, and plenty of fun.
