In today’s age of information overload, one of the most common things we hear from people when talking about past events and meetings was, “I didn’t hear about it, I would’ve gone!”
Whether or not you have insurance, there are many health benefits to joining free local support groups and taking advantage of health programming.
The Mayo Clinic, for example, recently cited the following benefits:
- Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged
- Reducing distress, depression, anxiety or fatigue
- Talking openly and honestly about your feelings
- Improving skills to cope with challenges
- Staying motivated to manage chronic conditions or stick to treatment plans
- Gaining a sense of empowerment, control or hope
- Improving understanding of a disease and your own experience with it
- Getting practical feedback about treatment options
- Learning about health, economic or social resources
