KINGSTON, NY – Mayor Steven T. Noble is pleased to announce that a virtual public meeting will be held for the Dietz Stadium & Andretta Pool Improvements Project on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 12:00pm.
The Dietz Stadium and Andretta Pool Improvements Project is a multi-phased, comprehensive restoration of the sports complex, parking lot, and surrounding drive. Upgrades are intended to make the facility a state-of-the-art regional sports attraction and economic driver for the City of Kingston. At the public meeting, City of Kingston staff, along with engineering consultants from CPL, will present the project’s master plan for public comment.
The master plan includes improvements to the scoreboard, bleachers, water fountains, fencing and gates, sound and Wi-Fi systems, lighting, bike racks, locker rooms, bathrooms, food vending, signage, parking, and more.
With initial funding from the DRI, Phase 1 construction began at the Andretta Pool in spring 2020, and to date, a new roof and masonry repairs at the pool house have been completed, as well as pool lining repairs and installation of a new pump and filter that will serve both the pool and a new splash pad. The splash pad, which was deemed a priority during DRI public engagement meetings, is expected to be installed by June 2021.
“We have already begun to make substantial improvements at the Andretta Pool facility, which we’ll be excited to open to the public this summer if we’re able,” said Mayor Noble. “There is still much work to be planned and implemented, so we invite the public to provide input about the master plan and the Phase 2 improvements that should be made to the stadium. And we’ll continue to seek new grant funding to support our comprehensive improvements wish list.”
Funding for the Dietz Stadium and Andretta Pool Improvements Project includes the Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant, which the City of Kingston was awarded in 2017, and two additional grants from the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for green infrastructure improvements to the parking areas throughout the complex.
